    neither have I but I am a part of one or two yahoo groups although they have stopped now.

    you can give updates about new stuff on your site to members of the group and if they are interested they would come to your site. Its another form of marketing which used to work before (its works now also but not that much) social network came in.

    I don't think it will as most would probably just stick with the content you are giving them through the group and may not even look at the site. At least that's my experience when I was joined up to a yahoo group.

    proxy site owners advertise a lot on these yahoo groups and they get lot of traffic from it.
