How do you do it?
Well, you can obviously do this many ways. The first thing that I usually look at is to disable any unnecessary services. Often, my clients will have services which they don't even use running on their servers, which just uses up RAM on the server.
Once you've done that, look into disabling any unnecessary Apache modules, which will help slim up Apache. From there, look into configuring MySQL to use less RAM (if it's a small website, with small loads), or more RAM for the larger database sites.

Now, seriously, the only answer is that you do this little by little, removing unnecessary load, getting rid of processes that eat up memoru/CPU, optimize code and database query as a starter.
And don't forget to put more fuel![]()
If you run apache you will find the file my.cnf on your server. There you can limit number of connection, memory, and other stuff.

How does one increase RAM on their server? I feel stuck on stupid sometimes...lol
If you want to optimize your server. Usually, my clients will have services that they do not even use that are running on their servers, just use that RAM on the server. In all there are so many things that is very good.
If you are using Apache, you will find the my.cnf file on your server. It allows you to limit the number of links, memory and other things.
