Linux or Vista?

I use my Laptop mostly to 1. Surf the Web 2. Download Torrents (Music,Movies,apps.) 3.Word proccess once in a while for school and thats basically it but i would still like the best opearating system for my Dell Inspiron 6000. Right now i have Windos xp on it. I could afford to buy Vista but first i want to get te best program out there.

Simple If gui is important for you then go for windows 7 not vista or else security is important then linux is best. According to your requirement windows 7 is enough. Linux is bit complicated you have to learn some thing to use it.
