Default Web Hosting Tips

A company is considering switching web hosts, and im looking for some suggestions
web host needs to support the following:
- lots of storage space
- all the latest technology (doh), php, ruby, ajax, asp, mysql, etc
- email support (at least 20 boxes, and unlimited pop/smtp support *no 250 relay bull*****)
- SSL certificate support
- control panel
- FTP access
- numerous domain & sub domain support
- room to expand (ecommerce)
and most importantly cost efficient ;p
I'm looking at a shared hosting (or perhaps even a virtual server) package.
Currently ive been looking at godaddy since their plans seem to offer all of the above and is fairly affordable, but im also looking for other options.
This is not for me, it was on another forum & I thought some ideas would come up here.

Well for starters you can't get php and asp on the same plan to my understanding however there may be some way to override this. Generally asp is a windows based web language that can't be run from a linux server and php is best run on a linux server.

Most users that host a site will go for linux unless they have a particular reason for needing windows such as asp hosting.

What is this site that requires the web hosting as knowing this can help to suggest a host to best suit their needs.

Make sure you read the fine print on the TOS and any other agreements before signing up.

Also ensure that you go with a host that does not oversell. Overselling is a strategy some web hosts use to make their plan look more spectacular but you don't ever get to utilise what they are offering you. There is a lower limit and they will tell you to go find a new host before you reach the limit provided to you. This includes any plan that is marketed as unlimited as there is no such thing.

I would recommend a host that offers quality service and support and wants what is best for their client at a reasonable price and will look after you.

If you still want us to recommend a host then let us know and we will try and help you in this regard.

If your site will require database support and you need to frequently modify data or the database, get a plan that will offer remote database connections. GoDaddy does not offer this and their web admin console are just not enough for a DB guy like me.

ASP and PHP are offered together on a number of plans, but not that they will be Microsoft plans with PHP installed on top. In general, I have not had problems running PHP code on a Microsoft plan. If you're looking to run WordPress or other apps that were intended to be run on a Linux plan, your best to get a Linux plan.

Hello Babai,

I would like to alert that before buying hosting from any Hosting Provider, make sure that they should allow you to install third party SSL Certificate. As a SSL service provider web-security, I came to know that hosting providers offer you cheap hosting. Once you enroll for hosting and ask to install third party SSL certificate. That time they will not allow you to install third party SSL and will complsory to use SSL from them. Now they will charge you big amount for SSL Certificate and SSL Installation.

We (TheSSLStore.com) are leading SSL provider came to know that Hosting providers do not allow other vendor SSL. We offer very cheap RapidSSL GeoTrust Thawte Verisign SSL Certificate than others. And hosting providers charge too much for the same SSL certifcate. So please be clear befor buying hosting from any hosting provider.

RapidSSL GeoTrust Thawte Verisign SSL Certificates are available with 70% dicount price.

Thanks,

Because of stiff competition in hosting as well. Now you can get many facilities at cheap price. But however my personal advice is you should go for such hosting companies which are reliable, 99% Uptime, great support of after sales service.

For this I think you can have two companies and i.e., Bluegost and Hostgator. Bluehost have extra advantage because of speed.

It is recommended that you look around before choosing to go with a web hosting company. Some companies will suit your business/hosting needs better then others.
