So Dreamhost has had security issues before?

Ive got some recommendations for dreamhost and was about to sign up with them.

But now I learn that they got hacked or had some major security issues before? I really don't know much about web hosting or security issues, yet. I just wanna create a website and find a quality hosting provider for that.

Does that incident I read about make dreamhost a less safe choice than other hosts or is that something that could have happened to everyone?

Did their clients get any big problems or were the issues resolved?
