The disk space that you contract for from your web hosting company is the disk space that you will use for your web site (and website logs if you have logging enabled). You can determine how much disk space you will need by looking at the amount of space that your website is using on your own machine.

If you got lots of pictures or other image files there will be a need of more disk space.

Bandwidth or data transfer, refers to the amount of data that has been transmitted by your web server to visitors of your website. For example, if you have one page on your web site that is 10kb large, and that page has one image on it that is 90kb large you will transfer 100kb of data for every user that views that website. So, 10 users would mean that you used 1,000KB of bandwidth.

Bandwidth and disk space needs vary tremendously based on the type of web site that you are hosting and the volume of visitors to your web site. Largely text web sites do just fine with several hundred megabytes of diskspace and bandwidth. We suggest that you speak with your web hosting company and have them help you select the right plan for you.

    Hello
Email also takes up disk space. If you have an account with a small disk allotment you may find that unsolicited SPAM may be eating away at your disk allotment. It’s always a good idea to go through your inbox from time to time to delete unnecessary emails.

What will happen if you use too much disk space? Each web host has their own policy about this but it’s safe to say that you will be charged for the extra space. Often this penalty is much higher than regular rates for disk space so it’s important to keep an eye on how much space you are using and if you are approaching the limit, either purchase more space or delete some files.

There are hosting websites offering you unlimited disk space and bandwith, but they really suck because the service level is very low, your site needs minutes to load or the uptime is less. If you need 100GB space buy a dedicated server but don't go with an unlimited hosting company.

Dedicated servers are best but there are some good plans available through web hosting companies.

    Hi

Disk space is the size allocated to store your website. Every single letter on your website has to be stored somewhere on your web host's server. HTML pages are usually very small, but the images, scripts, and databases take up large amounts of disk space. Bandwidth/Transfer is the amount of data the server will allow your site to send in a month. Transfer is usually measured in gigabytes - billions of bytes.

    Thanks
