Key points in choosing a hosting plan

What are your key points in determining what you will purchase. ie: do you look at what they charge or give you for bandwidth?

When choosing a hosting company make sure the web hosting company is reliable. A hosting company must use fast and reliable servers, their server should be up at least 99 percent of the time. Ask if the host has back-up servers available for use when the server is down.
Then bandwidth is consumed when visitors make requests for files on your web site and download them to their personal computers, its how much data can be transferred at a time or the speed of the server. Most hosting companies offer a variety of bandwidth options in their plans,the amount of bandwidth a hosting company can provide is determined by their network connections.

For me, the server stability and after sales service would be on top of any issues.

The host I use employs the term "unmetered bandwidth".

"unmetered bandwidth" is probably a better term to use as a host, as it implies that they don't charge extra for going beyond a certain amount of usage, but recognize that even a massive pipe can get clogged (thus can't be "unlimited")...

I want to add one more point: Find out how many domains you can have. If you want to have multiple domains, make sure that your host will allow them. Multiple domains are a good idea if someone mistypes your URL. For example, someone looking for "eHow.com" types "eHow.net" and is automatically forwarded to eHow.com if eHow has registered all similar domain names.
