Like when you search "answer" on Google. The toppest one is answer.com then followed by yahoo answer. This means answer has a higher page rank than yahoo answer. And being list on the directories will increase your page rank. It's not easy and sometimes it's not free to list your site on the directories.some SEO (Search Engine Optimization) masters also use them to increase the page rank of their websites.
