Yes,if dmoz indexed your site ,it will helpful for you,but it is so difficult to submit.

I don't think they ban your site if it doesn't meet the criteria, its just not accepted that time. You can certainly make the changes needed to meet their criteria and try again.

I do agree with you and another problem is you can't assume that when your site will be listed. So I don't care much about to get listed in dmoz because there are many other tactics to get high PR and ranking as well.

Submitting in Dmoz.org is great way to have a quality link to to this is a trusted site by SE's. In submitting to this kind of directory be sure to select the proper category in order to have a fast approval on your request listing.

Its quite helpful for a website to be listed in DMOZ, a listing in DMOZ generates two important links for the website, one from DMOZ and one from the Google directory

Personally I think that DMOZ is pretty corrupt. Sure you can submit and get lucky, but I'd not waste too much time with it. Submit and move on.

I find it very hard to submit to dmoz. I don't know what could be the reason.
