I managed to boost traffic on my blog almost by accident - I'm running a sewing blog as part of my course, and I did an interview with a well-known sewing blogger. She linked to it on her website and then BOOM!! While I knew she had quite a large audience, I really didn't expect it to shoot up like that from one post!
