Webdirectory bait

I've seen a lot of low quallity web directories of which I highly doubt anybody is actually using them except for webmasters submitting their sites!

My guess is the big secret is that they collect email addresses for advertising and most of them offer a free and a payed listing with your sites title in bold or whatever. They profit of the few people from the hundreds that submit their site, who believe that it actually makes a difference to have your title in bold on a site that no one uses.

Also I doubt Google gives any credit to sites on these little link farms, there are some quallity directories out there like from Yahoo! or DMOZ but most of them are not.
