Default Is Nomoz related to Dmoz?

I have a website that I submitted to be listed at the dmoz directory over 2 years ago and I am still waiting. I have found a similar web directory called NoMoz located at www.Nomoz.org that looks much better and seem to be trying to replace Dmoz, I want to submit my website there but they charge money for submission. Is this a legitemate website?

Nomoz has set itself up as the next candidate to "bring down" DMOZ. Time will tell if this is the case or not.

Essentially they have taken a dump of the ODP data and opened it up for people to add their own site's, delete their competitors site's, and "lock" their own site in.

Everything the "empowered" webmaster wants to do costs money, of course - submission's, and removing your competitor's.

A lot of expert's right now are of the opinion that this directory will be just a flash-in-the-pan - Google will pay it no attention because they are essentially just another DMOZ mirror right now (which they discount in their PR calculations) and will morph into a "pay for listing" directory, which they also discount. If webmaster's choose to spend the money on changing listing's, the result will be a keyword-laden directory with no review of the listing's content's, with competitor's arbitrarily deleted - hardly a quality product.

At the very best it will just be another backlink for your site, which you have to pay for, at worst it will be declared a Google "bad neighborhood" and your site will get no benefit from it. My advice would be that you may as well save your money and go with all the other directories out there that offer free submission's.

Right now it looks like its a great way for the owners to make some cash based on the DMOZ data, while making their own opinion's about DMOZ known - see the about page on the site. People have tried it before and failed every time. This one may be different but all sign's show that is doubtful.

What webmasters would like is a way to change the data that is actually in DMOZ - and this isn't it.

And I think that is the question - if it stays low PR, then you have to ask if it's really worth the money. If it *is* worth the money, then you probably want to wack all your competitor's who haven't paid the "protection" money yet to "lock-in" their sites.

Right now, it just seems like a bit of a joke to get back at DMOZ.
