HTML = the framing. it's the 2x4's, the 2x6's, the Truss', etc. It's the raw material that is required to give the building it's 'structural look'.

CSS = Wallpaper, paint, trim, etc. Objects that 'spice up the appearance'.

HTML is for structured content and CSS gives style and for formatting the structured content. You can see different designs and colors on all websites, these are usually designed with CSS.

HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language, is a set of markers placed inside text to define its structure.
It is a widely accepted web-design language.
It is responsible for the construction, and the total output, of a page.

CSS is another widely-accepted web-design language.Unlike HTML, CSS does not "create" anything. Instead, it decorates, aligns, and positions (etc) elements in HTML. In a nutshell, CSS takes the normal HTML output and adds a few rules to how it's actually displayed or CSS is a set of rules used to define the (typically) visual style of HTML text.

HTML says things like "this is a paragraph" or "this is a list".
CSS says things like "paragraphs should be centered" or "lists should be printed in blue text."
