Default If you're not a huge computer HARDWARE (laptop) nerd just skip over my question...?

I'll try to explain this the best I can. I just bought a new laptop and I've been getting my old one ready to sell on ebay. It had a lot of rubbing on the palmrest outter shell so I found a new one so that I could switch it out and hopefully increase it's final selling price.

    THE ISSUE:
While I was piecing apart my laptop one of the tiny little plastic clips (only a few mm's in size) that holds the ribbon cables into their ports for mouse connectivity snapped. I've tried gluing, taping, and everything else I can think of to hold the cable in place but it just won't snap back in the way it should so now I'm getting no connection in the mouse on the laptop. I've called Sony about getting a replacement and that's turning out to be a NIGHTMARE. Does anyone have any ideas, solutions, the name and number of a person/place I can order a replacement from, or ANYTHING?

10 points to the geek that can be of MAJOR help to me.

    Thanks.

If the clip itself broke and not the base unit lock for the slide clip, you should be able to go to an electronics hardware parts store and get a complete SMT connector. With patience you can remove the slide and install it on the broken connector. If it is the connector, it will probably require a replacement. You will have to have the motherboard removed so good tech with the right tools can desolder the old one and replace it. If too much, finish taking everything apart and sell it in pieces on e-bay. Parts are worth more than a complete unit.

Well good luck going through Sony, since they'll just piss and moan that you took your laptop apart.

If it was a simple clip holding it together, perhaps a piece of wire could hold the cable in place? Something that you can twist easily but will be strong enough to hold the cable in place. I'm not exactly sure of what you're dealing with here, if the cable is pulling itself out of where you're trying to plug it into or if it's falling down, etc.

What if you were to find a piece of plastic or something and gluing it to both the connector and the input, forming a bridge??? That could work if there was enough to connect the bridge to on both sides, it's hard to say without seeing it myself.

But I wouldn't count on getting a replacement, because I'm practically certain that Sony won't send you one since you probably voided whatever warranty may have existed by dismantling it yourself.

Maybe if you describe both the plug and the cable a bit more clearly??
