i am getting a new computer for around $600. i've done research on alot of different computers. i will be using it for my producing studio. i need atleast 2gb ram, and a good intel processor. space doesnt really matter. and i would need a reliable brand. i even consider customizable ones. please give suggestions or links.

if you want to get a computer that cheap with what you want you need to build a desktop yourself

there is no other way to afford it (if those are AUS dollars)

www.staticice.com.au is a search engine for australian shops and it orders them by price

i actually have a list of components (tower only) that fits your price

    CPU:intel e2160
    MOBO:gigabyte ga-945gcm-s2l
    Ram: kingmax 2gb (2x1gb)
    video: ati HD3850
    PSU: thermaltake TR2 RX 450w
    storage: maxtor 160gb
    Case: coolermaster elite 330

this comes to about $600 aud then searched for on the above website

but if you want a better computer (because this isn't great) then you need some more money

if you honestly have no preference, then the hands down answer is desktop. newegg is just about the best source for all things computer im told, and if you already have a keyboard, monitor, and mouse, then 600 is very realistic.

for a producing studio, get 3 gb of ram, the max xp can handle, and get the lowest end quad core, which is only 250 dollars. get a nice socket 775 motherboard by gigabyte or asus or msi, shouldn't be more than 60 since you don't need sli or ddr3 memory. youll still have about a hundred for odds and ends, and believe me, if you save money and get a dual core and 2gb of ram, it will still work very fast. intel's chips fly these days. a 1.8ghz dual core can be clocked up to 3.0ghz pretty easily, and costs around 50 bucks!
