Default My computer is not recognizing new hardware!?

I recently had a virus which required me to reformat. Everything seems to be working fine now, however I'm having trouble reinstalling new hardware: specifically my printer. Also, When I try to connect my mp3 player (SanDisk Sansa e200v2 model), it only recognizes in MSC mode, but says the player is empty (despite also showing that it is 75% full), and it doesn't register in MTP mode at all. I have XP, have installed SP2, etc. Any ideas?
The printer has a disc- you install the driver with the disc, then plug in the printer, the problem is when I plug the printer in it doesn't acknowledge that I've plugged anything into the USB port.

I suggest you call your computer manufacturer for help.

    Have you tried installing drivers?

It could be your USB Ports are not working. Right click on My Computer, then select Manage. A new window will open up called Computer Management, and on the left hand side of the screen click on Device Manager. In Device Manager, scroll down to the Universal Service Bus category, and expand the category by clicking on the plus sign beside it. Now a few things will be listed including USB Root Hubs. These Root Hubs are your USB ports, and you should make sure that their aren't any exclamation marks beside them, or it would mean the USB is not working properly. But if nothing seems out of place I would still continue with the next steps.

First thing I would do is disconnect the printer, and the SanDisk MP3 Player, then right click on each Root Hub one at a time, and select Scan for Hardware Changes, it could cause the Computer to recognize them. If this does not work then follow the next step.

The next step involves you in uninstalling each Root Hub individually, but don't worry nothing bad will happen, just don't select the Root Hub with the Keyboard or Mouse in it.
Right click on each Hub and select Uninstall, then once this is complete, then Restart the computer and XP will automatically reinstall the USB Hubs.

Anymore questions, contact me and I can gladly help you.
    Have a nice day
    Ken

It might be a problem with your computer now... did you already reformat your computer after you get a virus at your computer? If not yet, i recommend you to reformat your computer, because virus can kill some important file that we can't see... also the driver for the hardware... but if already reformat your computer, it might be a some problem with your connection plug or hardware connection plug...

Obsolete hardware - when your hardware using, more and more difficult to replace once manufacturers begin phasing out production. As technology improved, the old hardware becomes cheaper initially, as expensive supply dried up.
