What do I have to do to become a trained SEO professional?

I have been working as a content writer fro some time but am at a disadvantage when a client asks me if I am a SEO expert. I know it's not that difficult to be one but I don't know whether I have to take a course to qualify as one or just work with a SEO firm to pick up the tricks. Please help.

If you want to learn by yourself read some SEO tips and tutorials, also you must understand the principles of SEO, and learn the basics of it, SEO is not that difficult to learn..

Yeah I agree with JEN, you can learn seo by yourself just have patience in reading and understanding SEO tutorials, also with the help of google search, you can search what ever you need to learn. just study the basic of SEO like, link building, on page and off page optimization and keyword optimization. and learning new things and strategies..
