A Google penalty is the negative impact on a website's search rankings based on updates to Google's search algorithms and/or manual review. The penalty can be an unfortunate by-product of an algorithm update or an intentional penalization for various black-hat SEO techniques. Google penalizes sites for engaging in practices that are against its webmaster guidelines. These penalties can be the result of a manual review or algorithm updates such as Google Penguin. Google penalties can result in the drop of rankings for every page of a site, for a specific keyword, or for a specific page. Any drop in rankings brings with it a major drop in traffic for the site.

If your internet site traffic all of sudden drops and you see a corresponding decline in scores, there is a great opportunity which you are on the receiving end of a Google penalty. Google pronounced in 2014 that over 400,000 manual movements are taken in opposition to websites each month by their net unsolicited mail team (1), and that is actually best a fragment of the whole wide variety. Many different websites are penalized while Google rolls out new algorithmic updates to the Penguin or Panda.

A sudden, unexplained drop in the rankings may be disastrous for retailers, as it can save your site visitors from finding and buying your merchandise, but you could get over a Google penalty.
