How to select best keyword for optimization ?

I am very much interested in keyword analysis. I will tell
you my method of doing that and will be expect suggestions and corrections from all you the seniors guys.presently i am doing analysis by google adwords keyword analysis tool, in search volume if there is a half green bar then we realise that this is an targetable keyword for optimization, and find
count by "keywords ",in google search bar then if there is less count then we select those keyword.
This is a process of selecting keywords I am presently using.I am not sure, if it is the best one or not. I would like to learn from your experiences

- Be creative when selecting your keyword, ie know what the search phrases/keyword those people use when they are looking for the product you are optimizing but then be choosy.
- If there are unusual words associated with your content that you think people might search for, or misspellings, include them sparingly.
- Target keyword phrases that are not too competitive.

Well thats ok and you have passed first phase. But with that you should also realise the competition in such keywords. Suppose if such keywords have huge competition than optimising such keyword is really tough.

So consider the competition part also.

what I am doing is write keyword in google adwords keyword analysis tool Get Key Word Idea and Check the competition and on the basis of that I will decide the best keyword.

You can research which keywords your competitor used.And use google keyword,wordtraker to find which word people like to use.

The best tool is to use the google keyword tool. Yes but keep this in mind that many times you will get wrong keywords so better analyse competitors too. Well it is better to use your logic too.

Long-tailed keywords are best to target since most of them has less competition.

You can view the source of your competitors in order to get some ideas on how to target your keywords. Use also Google Adwords due to this somehow gives an near accurate results on the keywords average search and competitors as well.
