Default Do folders hinder search engines?

I have a site with lots of subjects, each of which is kept in a folder under the same domain. My first page is called index, but I have an index in each folder and links within each folder. Does it make it more difficult for search engines to find my pages as they are in folders? Would it be better if I put them all in together? Obviously I would have to change all the index.html pages in the folders to the name of the subject. This would all take time, but would it make it easier for search engines and directories to find the pages? Would there be any advantages or disadvantages?

You can make a 1000 folders.. and a spider will still find it.. as long as it is linked some where...

let me see.. you have an index.html and several pages linked from it.. i.e. poems.. in one of the poem pages you have it linked to love poems and in one of the love poems pages a link to page1.html..

the spider is still gonna find page1.html no problem.. you can arrange or put a folder inside the folder a 1000 times.. but there is no problem a spider finding it.. as long as the link to it is some where in the site...

    no need to rearrange anything...

But: You have created a folder.. and the contents links to no where.. then ofcourse.. who knows such a thing exists..

If your visitors can see the page ofcourse a spider can... unless it is a password protected area..

last of all: please post your site.. so we can take a look at it..
Where from, Why here, Where to..?
May god bless, who he wishes to bless!!

you can place your pages in folders, subdomains, etc and search engines can spider it.

I have to agree, it really doesn't matter where it is located as long as you link to it.

So use whatever is easier to manage for you. Folders to me sound easier, since you say you have folders for categories, so you should probably stick with the folders.
