Choosing the right keywords and keyword phrases is the first and the most important step on a way to a successful website and improved search engine rankings. The keyword factor is the one that will decide whether your website promotion campaign will be a success or a miserable fail.

i think keyword phrase is better than long tail keyword, you know some people said long tail keyword is important, it could take you the goal customer,but it is only a little person,so i think keyword phrase is better, or you can build links for keyword phrase and long tail keywords at the same time.

You must have the unique keywords and you can try checking those keywords in google keyword tool. Check the keywords density and prominence first.

yes check and put key word parse as well as density also, that will lead over the internet.

I think choosing a right keyword and optimizing it in a very proper way can be very useful for improving site.

I think choosing keyword in domain name makes some work simple which also help to get site in top page easily. But still you have to do work for your site.

yes if you select keyword phrase or long tail keyword then it is ok and good for ranking your site too.
