Thematic links have value. IMHO, theme is more important not the language.
What is more important in building link is link quality and its relevancy, no link hurts except from link farm
I don't think any decent backlinks would hurt your sites. More backlinks would benefit your sites in SERP and PR more.![]()
Even I don't think that will hurt to your SEO if they are good backlinks.
