A thread is an independent path of execution within a program. Many threads can run concurrently within a program. Every thread in Java is created and controlled by the java.lang.

Java programs have at least one thread, known as the main thread, which is created by the JVM at the program’s start, when the main() method is invoked with the main thread.

The Java thread facility and API is deceptively simple; however, writing complex programs that use threading effectively is not.

A thread is a part of a process. A thread lives within a process. No process, no thread. To understand better, we cannot keep our brain outside for sometime and place it back; it is because brain is a part of human body. Similarly, a thread cannot be there without a process.

When a thread is created, it is assigned a priority. The thread with higher priority is executed first, followed by lower-priority threads. The JVM stops executing threads under either of the following conditions:

If the exit method has been invoked and authorized by the security manager

All the daemon threads of the program have died

Java threads helps creating multiple independent path within program. In other words, Dividing one process in to small threads to reduce the execution time of the program.

Thread in computer science is the execution of running multiple tasks or programs at the same time. Each unit capable of executing code is called a thread. However, modern JavaScript offers ways to create additional threads, each executing independently while possibly communicating between one another.
