Birthday Alarm/San Francisco, CA (South of Market)
(Recruiters and outsourcing firms: please *do not* contact us about this position.)
Birthday Alarm (www.birthdayalarm.com) is seeking a few outstanding Java software developers to take our site to the next level.
This is your opportunity to be part of a very small team working on an established, successful, and highly profitable web property. The folks you'll be working with are well-known industry veterans in the social networking space, and we have a ton of ideas on how to turn our "web 1.0" property into the next big thing – all we need to make it happen are a few talented developers. Which is where you fit in.
We strongly believe in a "release early, release often" development methodology and abhor large, overly complicated frameworks and processes – our product release cycles are measured in days, not weeks or months. We're looking for someone who shares this philosophy and yearns to create functional, elegant, scalable code in a fast-paced environment without a dedicated QA team. If you like the simplicity of developing web applications in PHP or Ruby but prefer the cleanness and power of coding in Java, this job is for you!
In this role, you'll:
* Amaze us with your ability to quickly design and implement new features for the Birthday Alarm web site
* Charge into new social media opportunities such as Facebook applications
* Squash bugs and help tackle usability issues to improve site conversion
The ideal candidate has:
* Proven track record developing high-traffic web applications on Linux, preferably in Java
* Ability to quickly implement user interface features using HTML, JavaScript, and Flash/ActionScript
* Solid understanding of AJAX, XML, JSON, web services, and the underlying networking principles
* Thorough knowledge of SQL and RDBMS database concepts from a developer perspective
* Experience with Facebook, Bebo, and/or OpenSocial web applications
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Since its inception in 2001, Birthday Alarm has grown to become the leading birthday reminder and greeting card site on the internet, with 50 million registered users. Each and every day we send out over one million birthday, anniversary, and holiday reminders. The company is privately held and self-funded.
This is a full-time position with benefits, profit-sharing, and equity, based out of our office near South Park in San Francisco. United States citizens or permanent residents only, please.
