We are looking for a seasoned Systems Engineer to join our small cross-functional team that works on Cinematch, our movie-recommendation system. With company growth plans taking the system from our current 7.5 million customers and over 2 billion movie ratings to a targeted 20 million customers in the next three to five years, improving the design, predictive ability, and performance scalability of Cinematch is critical. You will be challenged with contributing to the design of an increasingly sophisticated recommendation system--based in part on results from the Netflix Prize--which is critical to the success of Netflix.


We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, intellectually curious, and extraordinarily effective at architecting large-scale systems based on anticipating the company's business demands. You have an extensive (at least 5 years) and successful track-record building fast, reliable, large and scalable server systems, preferably in C++ on Unix. Given our lean structure, you will be responsible for design, implementation, tuning, experimental testing, and monitoring of major Cinematch improvements. BS or MS in Computer Science is preferred. Some familiarity with statistical analysis of large datasets and machine learning would be a bonus. Experience with 64-bit applications, Java web-code development and the joy of emacs is a definite plus.
