If your last name is Torvalds, then you REALLLY have a great chance of landing this job! But seriously, this is where the rubber meets the road. We develop and maintain complex medical imaging, telemedicine, and disaster response web servers that are used by local, state, and national organizations, like the Red cross, emergency responders, hospital chains, and international organizations to improve the quality of healthcare for rural and underserved populations, as well as Federal government and private imaging centers and hospitals in large metropolitan areas. This is a very crunchy granola outcome for a seriously geeky, high tech crowd. Our servers are on Linux, Solaris , and VMWare stacks. We sell them as a deployed solution on site, as well as currently setting up a hosted environment running on VMWARE.

Please be an expert in ALL of the following: Linux or Solaris, C++, Java, Ajax, and PSQL,Perl, and be a security wizard as well.

You should be the type that gets bored if you don't have a fun project, because you will have plenty of cool stuff to do, and if we can't keep your plate full, then we will fund your favorite research side project to keep it entertaining. You should be able to whip up a web interface, to a postgres database, and make it appear on your iphone. You should be fond of doing things like building neat applications and giving them away, and you should use your free time to develop neat projects that will fund just because it seems like a cool thing to release as freeware and the right thing to do. You should care about doing your part to improve healthcare, and should realize that it is finally time to get a job that comes with really comprehensive medical and dental because then your wife/mother/significant other will stop ragging on you. You should be informal and be more concerned with the size of your personal storage array and lab computer systems, than whether there is a latte machine and really nice view from your window. (Yes, we have a really nice latte machine, but no, we do not have great views), and finally, you should like working in small groups, and being in charge of your own project. If you are the guy that likes endless meetings, wearing suits, and traveling to the other end of the country instead of talking on the net, then this would not be your dream job.

You will be paid extremely well, only have to come into the office 2 weeks a month if you like working from home, and you don't even need to live in the bay area if you are indeed as good as you think you are.

If you have been out of work for longer than 6 weeks, or have changed jobs more than once in the last 3 years, then this is probably not your gig either.

Requirements:

Strong working knowledge of IBM, Blade technology, Apache, LDAP, Kerberos, MySQL or PostgreSQL, Working knowledge of LDAP and enabling integration with non-Microsoft applications for lookups and authentication. Strong knowledge of networking and TCP/IP based communications, to include but not limited to, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN networking. Experience with the deployment of SAN and NAS technologies and switch interconnection.

Strong working knowledge of Cisco routing and L2 switching, experience must include VLAN and VTP deployment and management, QoS and STP troubleshooting and configuration.

Experience:

• Must have 5+ years experience Unix System Systems and Cisco Networks in a Production Environment supporting mission critical systems must have a proven track record of technical and project leadership.
• Extensive experience with IBM based AIX, pSeries systems.
• Experience with VMWare Server and ESX in production environments.
Must have excellent communication skills
