The Opportunity:
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Research Engineer-Communications Emphasis in the Systems Research group. This work includes researching, evaluating, and testing SCADA and real-time protection communications schemes as they are deployed in existing and future networks.

Research Engineer – Communications Emphasis

Responsibilities:
*Analyze, document, and test systems for vulnerability to electronic intrusions.
*Analyze, document, and test commercial electronic security products and systems for possible adaptation to SEL business.
*Consult to other SEL engineers with the performance needs of electronic security features in future SEL products and information network configurations.
*Develop and maintain technical knowledge of communications devices as they pertain to SEL business.

Qualifications:
*Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science
*Experience in information security
*Experience in communication equipment operation
*Software programming skills in C, C++, C#, or similar
*Excellent communication skills
*Ability to quickly learn new skills in electric power systems protection, control, and automation
*Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
*Background check results satisfactory to SEL
*Negative drug test result(s)
*US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience in design and maintenance of communication networks
*Experience with various SCADA protocols: IEC 61850, DNP, Modbus, IEC60870, etc.
*Experience and knowledge of data encryption and authentication
*Experience with wireless networks
