The Front End Web Developer collaborate with User Experience Designers and Software Developers to build all manner of well-crafted, forward looking things, using modern standards-based techniques and best practices. Lead technical decisions relating to front end code, including CSS, XHTML, and OO JavaScript, and keep the ASP.NET software developers honest with respect to the front end.
Primary Responsibilities
· Translate prototypes and PSDs into launch-ready, valid XHTML/CSS. Integrate final markup into ASP.NET backend, creating and manipulating .NET Controls as necessary
· Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers and Software Engineers to ensure design vision is maintained and final markup is standards compliant
· Create/revise documents using XHTML / CSS / XML / XSL / ASP.NET Controls
· Work with designers, hybrid designers, and software developers to migrate pages from Classic ASP to ASP.NET, and convert tag-soup pages to standards compliance
· Tap into any other skills you have -- info architecture, visual design -- and influence the evolution of Fool.com, Caps.Fool.com, and our 9 premium subscriber sites
Core Competencies
· Deep understanding of XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, DOM2
· Strong command of cross-browser development techniques and browser degradation strategies
· Skilled at building table-free layouts using semantic markup and CSS
· Enthusiasm and excellent communication skills
· Willingness to handle both large projects and small tasks as needed
· Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at once
Preferred
· Experience integrating server-side logic (ASP.NET Controls, Classic ASP) into markup, and vice-versa
· Working knowledge of legacy VBScript
· Experience with XSL (XSL-FO would be a big plus)
· Some familiarity with C# and OOP
· Eager to learn new technologies
· Balance of technical and creative skills
Education and Experience
BS/BA, related field preferred. 3+ years web development experience, preferably in a fast-paced, professional news environment. Please have URLs we can review. If we can't examine your code, we can't hire you.
