Agreed. I acutally first attempted to learn when I was around 12 using old Frontpage. I would create the page in design view and then look at the HTML it generated... lord, that was a bad idea. Frontpage generates HTML about as good as I generate milk from my male-bubsies.
Learn standards-compliant xhtml and css. There's no point in learning outdated stuff that you'll just have to un-learn.

Get a html guide for dummies from the library and learn. That's what I'm doing.
Off the top of my head I can't think of a good book, but try looking around amazon.com you can also read some reviews that users have posted about these books.
Learning the basics of html will come in handy because you will be able to read code and solve your own problems.
Yeah, i also recommend w3schools.com, its a good source to learn from.
