Rogue security programs are 'ongoing threat'
Symantec's report on rogue security software noted that 250 rogue security programs launched some 43 million attempts to prompt user installation between July 2008 and June 2009.

There is a new name of those types of programs - "scareware". Its software that "scares" someone into buying it to remove threats that really do not exist.
I'am wondering why the US Justice department has not cracked down on the people who make those programs? Because its really false advertising.
