With forums you will receive more than one link from the website if you post multiple times on the forum, where as with a article directory or link directory you will only receive only one link;

The link within the forum is one-way which is definitely more valuable than a reciprocal link.

Do follow forum sig could get your backlinks, but i think only the relevant forum site could get your tarffic.

Forum is the easy way to increase a traffic. It is the place where the user are came over to discuss their topics and posting their content.

Right, links in forum signature are also backlinks for our sites. But I would to say just keeping away from those forums which need you to log in to show the signature links, they are useless.
