I think the links were no-follow but yahoo answers can be quite useful in terms of generating some targeted traffic the only problem is it can be short lived.

Yahoo answers are really good to bring visitors or traffic to the site.
But you should be careful in answering as a pure site promotional content may suspend your account.
I don't known whether the links allowed are do-follow or no-follow.

I think yahoo answer is dofollow back links.

If the target site itself is fully optimized, or somewhat search engine friendly, then the benefits of link building will substantially increase.
