Yes. Also using forum signature can be a good advantage if the forum is dofollow. And some forum also have recent blog option to show in your profile which is an added advantage. I see this forum also now has this option to show recent blog link.

The are many ways to find if the link is nofollow. You can either check the source and see if there is a nofollow attribute ie: rel=nofollow or you can use tools or plugins like seo quake or seo for firefox that will highlight nofollow links.
