The best way to start is to use keyword tools. Google AdWords is a good place to start and is a great example of the type of information that is available to you. By typing in the keyword[s] you're thinking about using for your website, you'll find out exactly what people are searching for. And that's very important and one of the many failings of newcomers to search engine optimization. Type in ufbvyftfg in Google. Do you know how many pages are returned? Zero. That's because no one searches for that. You want to KNOW what people are searching for. If you type in the term "widgets" in Google AdWords you will get a long list of keywords related to the term[s] you entered and all sorted by relevance.
