How do I improve the google pagerank of my site without spending money?
- need practical simple to use tips
- please do mention URLS of sites if you mention them
- yup I know that free is less quality than paid!
- my first couple of sites has great content and presently have a rank of 4/10 and 3/10 respectively
- my new site is still sitting at 0/10 - it has quality content and an interactive community and quite a lot of visitors (a few 1000 per day), but the PR doesnt budge!

Why do you want a higher PR? Is it for ego? Is it to sell links? Is it because you want to sell the site and you believe a higher PR site is more valuable?
I would focus on content, conversions, and rankings. The things that might actually affect your ROI.

Building your own way of promotion may be hard on you. But you will learn everytime you are that active on SEO forums and read good replies regarding on optimization process as well as their techniques.

Mate if you are looking for free tricks than learn some SEO tips apply them on your niche. Build relevant and Quality backlinks for your forum.
Most important is Patience. Just do your best and let the time to nourish it so that you can pluck the fruit of success.

hehe so far I have learned that good and original contain and relevant and quality backlinks can give you good PR. I have tried with my few blogs and these one have PR 3 or PR 4.

Generating back links with forum posting blog commenting directory submission article posting social bookmarking and press releases is the most effected ways to improve Page Rank.
Remember done this with quality and high PR websites.
