Yes, It can be the indication of the quality of the backlinks for the site, and it is not much of use in SERP's, and most of the visitor to a site didn't have the knowledge of the PR.

yes, joesmith is right, pagerank indicates nothing but your backlinks, and decide your SERP..

I think page rank is important because it indicate quality of sites..

IMO, page rank is only a guidelines about your link popularity. And it serves as one good asset in your website if you have a high PR.

In my own experiences, PR is a nice indicator for helping us in keeping away from building backlinks from bad neighbors.

PR has little impact in SEO. It is only important when it comes to linking to other sites. For a new site that links to another,it is always better to link to high PR site. And an authority site tend to have a high PR which means SE spiders visit their site from time to time.

We have seen that every body talk about PR. I think there is something to get page rank and that is why people are so crazy to have good page ranks of their sites.

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, used by the google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the world wild web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR.

People are really crazy about getting higher PR, But what is the need of high PR with out traffic. So gain more traffic.
