Default Google Gears: Use Your Services Even in Offline Mode

If you were looking for a powerful browser that can save your visited websites and allow you to view them in offline mode, you should know that it's very hard to find an application capable to do that with 100 percent
functionality. As we expected, the search giant Google decided that it's the time to take some attitude and designed a special extension that currently works with Firefox 1.5+ and Internet Explorer 6.0+ and allows you to browse your websites even in offline mode. The add-on is currently in early-development stages and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

Basically, the open source extension is meant to add some functionality to the AJAX products and enable the customers to browse the visited websites even in offline mode. "Gears is a browser extension that we hope -- with time and plenty of input and collaboration from outside of Google -- can make not just our applications but everyone's applications work offline," Aaron Boodman and Erik Arvidsson, Google Gears Engineers, sustained today.

"Gears today covers what we think is the minimal set of primitives required for offline apps. It is still a bit rough and in need of polish, but we are releasing it early because we think the best way to make Gears really useful is to evolve it into an open standard. We are releasing Gears as an open source project and we are working with Adobe, Mozilla and Opera and other industry partners to make sure that Gears is the right solution for everyone," the company's employees also mentioned.

Please keep in mind that the Gears extension is currently in early-development stages so don't be too disappointed if the plug-in doesn't work as you expected. All you need to do if you encounter problems is to contact Google and inform them about the bugs.
