301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".

According to me the way to redirect a page is to use 301 redirect plugin. This is a permanent redirect and will redirect the old page URL to new webpage.

A 301 redirect means that the page has permanently moved to a new location. A 302 redirect means that the move is only temporary. Search engines need to figure out whether to keep the old page, or replace it with the one found at the new location.

A 302 redirect is used when you want to temporarily redirect a URL, but you have the intention of moving back to the old URL.

There are several reasons to redirect a URL and a few basic ways to approach it. For a website that already has a lot of traffic and good search engine results but needs to change domain addresses, a redirect is a good choice for the transition period. Your traffic still goes to the old domain but is then automatically redirected to the new one. In time, as search engines update their databases, the new domain will pick up its own search results. A redirect can also cause several different URLs to be directed to a single website and can shorten complex URL addresses. Methods for how to redirect a URL depend on what code your website is written in and on how much confidence and experience you have with editing that code.[1]

Following are some of the ways we use to redirect the page:

    1. 301 Permanent redirects: A 301 redirect indicates a signal to search engine spiders that a page has been permanently moved to a different page.301 redirects affect your SEO from a technical, content, and link building perspective.

    2. 302: A 302 redirect is often simply called a temporary redirect, unlike a 301 redirect, which is based on a different HTTP status code and is characterized as a permanent redirect.

    3. 307 Temporary redirects: A 307 redirect is the HTTP 1.1 successor of the 302 redirects. It is Temporary Redirect too (has its origins in HTTP Standards/1.1) It is an HTTP response status code indicating the resource has been temporarily moved to another URI

    4. 404 error: 404 Error is an HTTP standard response code. It Indicates that a server is unable to respond to the client's request. In case if it has, rectify the links and use Robot.txt to avoid that broken link listing in SERP.

    5. 500 internal error: The 500 Internal Server Error is a generic HTTP code error that states something is wrong on your website server which is doesn't specify the exact problem with the server.
