Tips for Launching your Business Blog

Business blogging is becoming a mainstream marketing tool. That does not mean, however, that blogging comes easily or naturally for many companies, their owners and employees. Blogging, like any form of content, is a commitment of time and resources - namely, you have to know how to write and you have to maintain your blogs with fresh, original and insightful new material on a regular basis.

This should not scare you away. It should, though, inspire you to learn the basics of business blogging before you turn your baby loose on the world. Planning out your blogging strategy first is a wise move, because it gives your blog a greater chance of success. Here are 6 tips for launching your business blog:

    1. Identify your readers.
    2. Create social media accounts.
    3. Establish your social media presence.
    4. Determine where to place your blog.
    5. Use the right keywords.
    6. Choose a blogging platform.

    Hi

    1. Don’t Cover Your Blog in Ads: If someone gets to your blog and the every space is covered in a Google it just kind of looks tacky. There is no problem with trying to monetize your blog but take a tasteful approach. If you look a little too greedy you will not get any returning traffic.
    2. Don’t Write Once Per Month: There is nothing worse than coming to a blog and not seeing any updates for a few months or so. Once per week maybe week and a half are fine but once you start to approach the thirty day mark you will quickly see any traffic you have drop. Even if you start writing again it might be tough to get some of those people back.
    3. Purchase Some Server Space: Get a blog that has your own domain hosted on your own server. having your own url structure and your own blog gives you freedom to do what you want. Recently music blogs have been seeing blog posts removed for anyone that uses a free Google blog because they are picking up posts that bands have given permission for a link to an MP3 as piracy. This is the stuff you have to worry about if you don’t have your own blog.
    4. Stop Promoting Yourself: if you sit there and self promote over and over you are just going to loose all your traffic. It is fine to write about announcements at your company or even a new service or product offered once in a while but do just demand business on each blog post.
    5. Use Photos: I think the use of a photo or video with your posts will keep the reader hanging out a bit longer. It is important to have a little more than just text. Even thought they are there to read not look at pictures a good user experience is important.

    Hi
Connect with your readers through an about page and welcome message. One of the best ways to make a lasting impact is to connect on a personal level with your readers. That means letting them know who you are and what your background is.

Don't get seen naked: Never launch a blog with fewer than 5 posts. In the blogosphere you typically get just one shot at impressing a visitor or fellow blogger. Too many new bloggers throw up two posts and then start working on promotion. In the world of blogging, you are selling yourself and your writing. If you can't give people a fully dressed picture of what your blog is all about and what type of writing will be on it, then why should they throw a link your way, or subscribe to your RSS feed?

Make sure a link to your RSS feed is available above the fold. Though they won't help your AdSense revenues much, subscribers are the lifeblood of any successful blog. These devotees are often the ones providing you with regular comments, and are far more likely to be webmasters themselves (meaning more links). It should be obvious to anyone launching a blog, but it's amazing how many new bloggers do not make a link to their RSS feed readily available.

    Hi

Don’t be afraid to integrate Facebook (Facebook) and Twitter on a business blog. It’s a standard practice and will help drive new visitors to your blog. Social media buttons make it easy for customers to tweet out your work, while adding links to the company’s Twitter and YouTube (YouTube) accounts will help bolster their numbers and improve their ranking in search.

    Hi

    Add A Link
    – If it’s a company blog, or if it’s attached to another site, add a link to the blog from the main navigation on the parent website. This type of link is good for SEO and website visitors are increasingly expecting the company websites they visit to also include a blog.

    Email
    – Add a link to the blog in your email signature. Wherever you publish your web site address, you should publish your blog URL.

    Newsletter
    – If you have a newsletter, announce the blog and introduce contributors. Ask your newsletter subscribers what they're interested in and you might even be able to attract contributors.

    Network
    – Announce the blog to your Twitter followers, Facebook fans, LinkedIn connections and any other social networks that you are apart of. Make relevant comments on other small business or topically specific blogs using a link to your blog in the comment form vs. a link to your company web site.

    Press Release
    – If you feel that the blog is important enough to support a press release, put one out.

    Submit
    – Submit the blog to blog & feed directories. These types of sites do not send much traffic individually, but many of the syndicate content and can provide links for SEO and expose your content to new audiences.

    Hi

    Engage with your visitors
A blog isn’t a one way conversation, and one of the best things of having a blog is being able to engage with your audience via comments. Encourage comments and answer when somebody starts a conversation about your article, and you may make a subscriber out of a casual visitor that found a post interesting. There’s no better way to lose subscribers than making them feel like they are talking to a wall. Of course, comments aren’t without danger and you should take steps to prevent spam on your blog and learn to deal with negative comments in an adult and polite way.

    Encourage them to subscribe
If you want your visitors to subscribe to your blog and come back each time you produce new reading material, you need to make it easy for them to do so. To do this, enable RSS feeds and show a prominent link on each of your posts, preferibly with a logo that people can associate with the standard RSS orange logo. Remember, if somebody has to think or search around to be able to do something, chances are they won’t and you will have lost an opportunity for a recurring visitor.

    Thanks
