    Default Disadvantages of TV advertising

    Hi

    · Costs involved in television advertising is very high as it need to be repeated for many times and so it costs more to air advertisements on television channels.

    · Television advertisements are short, so they do not convey more about the product.

    · Television advertisements are sometimes obscure (mess up), as they do not show relevant information on products.

    · If television advertisements are not creative then people do not show interest to see them and do not buy the products.

    · Some times TV advertisements will be in such a way that people do not believe it, so they do not buy the products.

    · It is difficult to modify television advertisements unlike advertisements of print media.

    · Producing a television advertisement involves hiring scriptwriters, actors, video editors, or an advertising agency. So, it is a complicated procedure.

Television advertisements have both advantages and disadvantages. When rightly chosen and right presented based on the purpose helps businesses to reach their target customers flawlessly.

Producing a television commercial and purchasing airtime is costly--it is the most expensive form of advertising there is. TV commercial production is often a complicated process which can involve a lot of manpower, time and equipment. Some ads are simple--for example, just graphics and a voiceover. Other ads involve renting a studio and equipment, hiring a director, writers, actors, light and camera operators and editors. Who you hire to produce your ad will also affect the overall cost. For a less expensive, albeit lower quality ad, use your local cable station, which often has the capability to produce ads. If you have more to spend and want a higher quality ad, hire a professional production company. And assuming you're not an advertising professional, it's wise to hire an advertising agency to help you come up with a campaign, which will add further expense.

Besides production, there are a number of other factors affecting the final cost of your ad. Once the commercial is completed, you must then purchase airtime on one or more TV stations. According to AllBusiness.com, the key with TV advertising is repetition, so you'll want to air the commercial as many times as possible.

It's interesting to recall that the disadvantage of advertising monopoly. Unfortunately, on the Web today - and now the iPhone and Android, Research has given way to new knowledge. I think that advertising can be art, perhaps not so much as an announcement from Apple, and perhaps an alternate reality game. It has been done before, and creates much more effective interaction between people and goods production.

Despite the many entertainment options we have today, "television remains the dominant medium in most U.S. households," according to a study by Ball State University. Americans on average spend over 4 1/2 hours watching TV each day. Advertising your product or business on television can be very effective, but there are also several drawbacks. Before you purchase ad time, you should be aware of the disadvantages of advertising on television.

According to AllBusiness.com, the key with TV advertising is repetition, so you'll want to air the commercial as many times as possible. This is why TV stations offer pricing in bulk. Another cost factor is the size of the market in which you run.

A relatively new technology that is making its way into households across the nation is the DVR or Digital Video Recorder. A more modern version of a VCR, a DVR allows users to digitally record TV shows easilyand automatically, and to record more than one show at a time. Unfortunately for the advertising industry, DVRs allow users to fast-forward through commercials. According to Cnet News, a March 2006 study by the Association of National Advertisers and Forrester Research said about 70 percent of advertisers surveyed believed that "DVRs and video-on-demand will reduce or destroy the effectiveness of traditional 30-second commercials." It remains to be seen just what sort of effect DVRs will have on television advertising.

For all its advantages, advertising your business on TV does have some disadvantages. Barring late night spots on your local cable television network, no other advertising medium is as likely to eat up your budget as quickly as TV will. Producing the ad, which can include hiring script writers, actors, film editors, or an advertising agency, is only the first step. You must also pay for air time, and because studies have shown that TV ads are most effective with repetition, you'll almost certainly want to run your piece a number of times. Because of this, most television stations structure their pricing to make it more attractive for you to purchase advertising in chunks.

Another disadvantage is how difficult it can be to make changes. Whereas with newspaper advertising, updating sale pricing or a special offer is often as simple as swapping out a coupon, with television advertising it means updating your script and reshooting the entire ad, which costs additional money.

It can also be difficult to effectively target your core audience with television advertising, although there are a few best practices that can help. For starters, consider who your audience is before structuring your ad and purchasing airtime. Is a large portion of your clientele Spanish speaking? If so, you'd do well to purchase airtime on a Spanish-language station such as Telemundo. And if you're in the baby stroller business, you're probably better off purchasing time slots during the day when stay-at-home moms are most likely to see your ad.

An important step to developing your sales and marketing plan is to select the right media to send out your message. There are no hard-and-fast rules as to which media is better. The right media for one business may be wrong for another.
