    Step 1

The first step of the SWOT analysis is to identify your company's strengths. For example, one of the strengths of my company is that since we are family-owned, we are all motivated and take a personal interest in it.

    Step 2

The second step of the SWOT analysis is to acknowledge your company's weaknesses. For example, one of the weaknesses of my company is that, even though we are family-owned, small disagreements about business find their way into our personal/familial lives.

Note: If you are encountering difficulties in identifying your company's strengths and weaknesses, you could place a suggestion box in the employees' lounge. Most probably would be more than happy to identify employee-related issues, especially if done anonymously. Other areas that you need to look at include financial and public perception.

    Step 3

The third step of the SWOT analysis is to seek opportunities. Is your company keeping abreast of the trends that could lead to other opportunities? Do you read articles and journals related to your field?

    Step 4

The fourth step of the SWOT analysis is to be aware of threats. Your company may be thriving now, but have you identified your competitors. Do you know what it takes to remain competitive in your field?

    Step 5

The fifth step of the SWOT analysis is to keep abreast of trends. This step is related to the third step, opportunity. In sum, keeping abreast of trends lead to more opportunities.

    Hello
Unless you work in a retail environment, there's a good chance that you have some kind of credit terms set up with your customers. For the really nice customers, it's easy to extend a little more credit and a little more credit, perhaps to the point of over-generosity. Are you too lax on your credit terms? Are you giving your customers too much time to pay or not enough incentive (in the form of late-payment interest charges)? Consider these options to help you:
    • Offer prepayment specials, such as 20% off for any purchase paid in full before it's delivered.
    • Increase your interest charges on late payments.
    • Offer a discount (5% to 10%) for invoices paid in less than 30 days.
    • Offer a coupon for invoices paid in less than 15 days.
    • Divide up payments: half up front, one quarter upon delivery, and one quarter credit.

You may not feel that doing one is necessary, especially since your business is thriving. Yes-your business may be thriving now, but every business goes through peaks. Using the steps of the SWOTT analysis may help your business in good times and when going through tough times.

1.The first step of the SWOT analysis is to identify your company's strengths. For example, one of the strengths of my company is that since we are family-owned, we are all motivated and take a personal interest in it.

2.The second step of the SWOT analysis is to acknowledge your company's weaknesses. For example, one of the weaknesses of my company is that, even though we are family-owned, small disagreements about business find their way into our personal/familial lives.

The fourth step of the SWOT analysis is to be aware of threats. Your company may be thriving now, but have you identified your competitors. Do you know what it takes to remain competitive in your field?

As entrepreneurs, we deal with business problems often. They can be complaints from angry customers, delayed payments, unreliable suppliers, and many other issues to deal with. Our role is to be the problem-solver in the company, together with our dependable employees. While there are many complicated ways to solve problems, you might to go back to basics:

    Identify the Main Problem

Seems pretty obvious? Not quite. Many entrepreneurs confuse the effects of the problems with the real problems. Poor inventory planning, for instance, could result in late deliveries or cancellation of orders. While this is the root cause, some may blame the logistics guys for not sticking to schedule or even your customers for being so impatient. You should retrace your steps to identify the main issues.

More importantly, Software Project Management reminds us not to look back to find who is guilty. Instead, let’s focus on fighting the problems.

    Generate Alternatives

It’s time to brainstorm and find all the possible solutions. Follow the advice of Chess Grandmaster Emanuel Lasker: “When you see a good move, look for a better one.” Don’t scrap any ideas yet.

    Thanks

By using these techniques, you can start to tackle problems that might otherwise seem huge, overwhelming, and excessively complex.

As such, these tools give you a starting point in solving problems that would leave other people feeling helpless, and intimidated by the situation.

The section starts with some simple complexity skills. It then moves on to look at more powerful, 'industrial strength" techniques like use of Flow Charts, SWOT Analysis and Risk Analysis. We conclude with several powerful business strategy tools: Porter's Five Forces, PEST Analysis, the Boston Matrix, the McKinsey 7S Framework and USP Analysis.
