LSIs comprise of keywords related to your main keyword. They don't have to be directly synonymous to your main keyword. Let's say you'll write about computers, your LSI can include computer software, trouble shooting, or anything that would relate to computers. People researching about computers might be looking for solutions or software ideas, and if you cover those in your content, Google can pick up your webpage in the search engine results.
