    Default Steps to screen tenants

Tenant screening is very beneficial to landlord. Make sure the name on both the identification and the rental application match. Make sure that the rental application you give your potential tenant has a clause on it that allows you to run a credit report and background check.

They have potential tenants sign the application before you. From the prospective tenant a non-refundable fee to run your credit check. If they fail the credit check, you do not want the money in your pocket. Call your current employer to verify who actually work there. Sounds like common sense, but you will be amazed by the number of people who are on this front. And, of course, if you go through the rental application process, make sure you have all state-specific landlord forms, leases, security deposit receipts and everything else in line!
