Blog - Best ways to send lots of new traffic to it

hey, james here... i've been running a small blog now for a little over a year, and just recently after reading alot on some of these different forums ive started trying to monetize my blog with adsense and am looking to find different easy ways to send lots of new traffic. So far since i started ive just been dropping alot of links in comments i post on others blogs.. and doing the social bookmarking thing which is where most of my traffic comes from using the automated software which im sure most of you are probably using also. But I was jus curious, as im still fairly new to this, what are some other easy effective ways i could drive alot of new traffic to my blog? And furthermore, for those other methods for traffic are you aware of any other software like that will automate those methods for me that isnt going to cost me much?? As I work 40 hours a week and often find myself with very limited time to work on this project... Any advice / comments / suggestions would be very appreciated!! thanks

Given the previlage of a webmaster I rather focus on On-page SEO:
1. writing good articles on the blog page
2. codes cleaning. code validation is very important to me. It makes my page load faster
3. Link exchange to related niche.

for Off-page SEO:
1. social bookmarking
2. blog commenting to related niche
3. forum posting is also key option

Some tips to bring more traffic to your blog:

Submit your blog to My Yahoo and Google Reader.
Add a relevant link directory to your blog.
Use Ping sites.
Submit your blog to search engines like Altavista and MSN
Comment on other blogs.
Advertise your blog through newspapers, magazines, public bulletin boards etc.
Add a link to your blog.
Use forums.
Tag your website.

I agree with everything that you have mentioned. The first thing which a blog needs is informative and quality contents both for the readers as well as the search engines. And the backlinks from various sources gets you the search engine positions if you have a quality blog. A little advertising for new blogs might help them to get a good start.
